Ethical principles in guidance for quality in adult education

Quality   Counsellors   The role of quality counsellor   Ethical princip...

Guidance and counselling work, including counselling for quality in adult education, is a very responsible process in which many personal and professional relations take place. It is therefore important that a counsellor for adult education quality knows and respects fundamental ethical principles of counselling work. She or he learns about them during the additional training for the work of quality counsellor in adult education, and binds her or himself to respect them before starting to practise. Respect for ethical principles is monitored. If it is discovered that an individual does not respect the ethical principles, she or he can no longer work as a quality counsellor in adult education. Fundamental ethical principles of a quality counsellor in adult education in an educational organisation are:

The counsellor must provide the best advice she or he can give based on her or his professional knowledge, regardless of any other circumstances.

The counsellor must respect discreetness and confidentiality and must not breach them under any circumstances.

The counsellor respects the principle of parity/equality and thus does not differentiate in treating different procedures or opinions.

The counsellor must be honest.

The counsellor must be respectful.

The counsellor must respect the wishes of the educational organisation and its quality group.
